The community of Port Charlotte is mourning the tragic loss of 23-year-old Jacob Jones, who was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday afternoon in Charlotte County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred along El Jobean Road (State Road 776) near Kerrigan Circle, resulting in significant road closures as emergency crews responded to the scene. Authorities reported that Jacob was operating a 2019 Suzuki motorcycle and traveling behind a larger vehicle in the right lane of El Jobean Road when the crash occurred.
Investigators said that as Jacob moved into the left lane, a Gator Utility Vehicle was crossing the roadway. The motorcycle subsequently collided with the side of the utility vehicle. Despite emergency response efforts, Jacob sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Gator Utility Vehicle, a 65-year-old Port Charlotte man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
