A tragic head-on collision in Lawrence County claimed the life of a Tennessee man on the morning of June 2, according to a preliminary report released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
The crash occurred at approximately 9:01 a.m. at the intersection of State Highway 241 and Red Hill Center Road. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious collision involving a passenger vehicle and a concrete truck.
According to investigators, a concrete truck driven by 31-year-old Jacob Chapman was traveling north on Red Hill Center Road/State Route 241 when a southbound Dodge Charger entered the northbound lane. Preliminary findings indicate that the Dodge Charger, driven by 36-year-old Stephen Rivers, was attempting to pass two uninvolved dump trucks in a clearly marked no-passing zone when the collision occurred.
Authorities reported that Rivers’ vehicle collided head-on with the concrete truck in the northbound lane. The impact caused catastrophic damage, and Rivers was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Jacob Chapman was not injured during the incident. Officials stated that both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed that no charges have been filed at this stage of the investigation.
