The community of Kentwood is mourning the tragic loss of 18-year-old Brayden Sanders, who was killed in a devastating crash early Monday morning on Interstate 12 near Hammond, Louisiana.
According to Louisiana State Police, the collision occurred shortly before 2 a.m. when Brayden was driving a 2007 GMC Sierra eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-12 near Louisiana Highway 3158. Authorities reported that the vehicle collided head-on with a semi-truck traveling in the correct direction. Following the impact, the GMC left the roadway, entered the median, and overturned.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Brayden succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Investigators stated that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Authorities also indicated that impairment is suspected as a contributing factor, and toxicology samples have been submitted for analysis. The driver of the semi-truck, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
